School of Rock is a hilarious combination of several standard-formula plot elements that wouldn't have added up to much were it not for the uniquely quirky performance of Jack Black, the endearing children in his "rock" class, the direction of Richard Linklater, and the well-written script by Mike White. That such tired plot lines as a teacher inspiring his students through an "experimental" teaching style (learning his own valuable lessons along the way, of course) and a band preparing for an inevitable Battle of the Bands finale actually come across as refreshing and fun is a testament to the quality of the film's execution. The children are genuine and likable and Jack Blackhas a natural rapport with them -- who ever thought that Black would prove such an inspirational and understanding mentor? Yes, the story is preposterous, but the message of bringing out the best in kids through positive reinforcement -- and the "power of rock" -- is real and heartfelt. Black's comedic antics are hilarious -- at once reined in by Linklater and let free by the essential spotlight that the film offers him. The School of Rock is Black's first moment to shine and truly take center stage in a fiMike Whiteis great at relating the joys and importance of rock music and at avoiding stereotypes beyond most characters' first introctions (though the Liza Minnelli-loving effeminate student [Brian Falto] and the evil-girlfriend [Sarah Silverman] are noticably one-dimentional in comparison the the others). In particular,Joan Cusack's role as the strict and uptight principal is refreshing, in that it does not resort to the cliché evil disciplinarian gig throughout. Her character is humanized and, almost miraculously, is saved from being forced into an increlous romantic plot line with the lead. Also noteworthy is the fact that the children -- who, in addition to acting ability, were cast based on their musical talents and skills -- are actually playing their respective instruments throughout the film. The School of Rock is an enjoyable movie that should have mass appeal, even beyond the hardcoreJack Blackfans or rock aficionados.

School of Rock, also called The School of Rock, is a 2003 American musical comedy film directed by Richard Linklater, written by Mike White, and starring Jack Black. The main plot follows rock singer and guitarist, Dewey Finn (portrayed by Black), who was unanimously kicked out of his band and subsequently disguises himself as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school and forms a band of fifth-grade students to win the upcoming Battle of the Bands so he can pay his rent for his apartment.
A stage dive gone wrong incident involving Ian Astbury of rock band The Cult was witnessed by Jack Black, and was used as inspiration for a scene in School of Rock, in which the character Dewey Finn, stage dives and hits the floor; "I went to see a reunion, in Los Angeles, of The Cult; they were playing and Ian Astbury, the lead singer, took a dive. It was at The Viper Room, and it was just a bunch of jaded Los Angelinos out there, and they didn't catch him and he plummeted straight to the ground. Later I thought it was so hilarious. So that was put into the script".

"Disney’s High School Musical On Tour!," a live Broadway-style stage experience that captures the excitement and music of the films, is currently playing across the country and is proced by Disney Theatrical Proctions. 观后感(Another film about a progressive teacher trying to teach her students how to think outside of the box. Fortunately, unlike School of Rock, my views on which were accosted last week, I left Mona Lisa Smile mostly satisfied with what I had seen. No, it's not especially revelatory or surprising. You can more or less guess what's going to happen to each character by the end. But it does leave a little more room for characterization, for slightly unexpected outcomes, and it doesn't telegraph its moments quite so rigidly as the Linklater film. Julia Roberts is an actress about whom I feel nothing; I neither like nor dislike her. I think this is one of her better performances, certainly much better than her Oscar winning role in Erin Brockovich. She plays the progressive art history teacher, who arrives at Welsley to learn that all of her students have already studied the textbook from cover to cover, and can answer any question that might arise from the class's current syllabus. The curriculum and Roberts' superiors are strict in what they want to teach about art, but Roberts veers towards teaching what the textbook will not despite them. The superiors are unhappy with her course, but some of the students are opened up to the experience. Outside of class, Roberts faces as large a challenge. Most of her students have completely resigned to the idea that they are destined for marriage and nothing more. The status quo must be challenged. The students are a nice range of characters. Kirsten Dunst plays the most conservative, who is about to be married when the film opens. She, of course, rejects Roberts' ideals. On the other end of the spectrum is Maggie Gyllenhaal, who is the sexually promiscuous girl who idealizes her teacher. Slightly left of center is Ginnifer Goodwin and right of center Julia Stiles. These four characters are set up very mechanically, of course, but the characters succeed (and this can be said about all of the other characters of the movie, including Roberts', who are all rather mechanical) on the quality of acting. Each of the performers are wonderful. They manage to make you care, which is something that didn't happen with School of Rock, whose performers (with the one exception of Joan Cusack) were adequate or worse. I especially loved Marcia Gay Harden, giving another one of the best performances of 2003, as Roberts' roommate, who teaches etiquette. She's a pathetic, tragicomic image of what some of the girls will become if they insist that the traditional concept of womanhood remain unchanged. The film also boasts exceptional technical qualities. It's simply very well made.

在影片中,有几个明显的例子传达了此观点:Dewey对Tomika说的:“I can't let you be a singer if you can't sing 如果你不能唱出来我就不能让你充当唱歌的角色。”

当看到杰克布莱克这个迷人的小胖子拼尽全力唱着AC\DC的《It’s a long way to the top》时,被撼动得无以复加,It’s a long way to the top if you wanna rock ’n’ roll。

Let’s rock! We will rock you!

8. the school of rock

"School of Rock" is a pleasant, somewhat funny, upbeat movie, but it doesn't live up to the rave reviews it received.

I love rock, and I even like movies in which an inspirational teacher changes a ragtag bunch of students for the better. I liked this movie; I just wish it had had tighter pacing, less Jack Black, and more laughs.

I don't have a problem with Jack Black being fat and outrageous. The problem is that Jack Black isn't fat and outrageous enough.

We have a long and hallowed tradition of fat, outrageous comic actors in this country, going back to Fatty Arbuckle and including John Belushi, John Candy, and Chris Farley. I worship at the throne of Belushi. From Samurai deli to killer bee, Belushi had some of the thinnest routines in history, but he made them come alive with just a twitch of his eyebrows.

Jack Black is no John Belushi. In fact, he strikes me as an uptight businessman in a fat loser's body. He doesn't have the earthiness, the inherent funniness, the weird sexuality, the musicality of a great, fat man comic actor.

He's okay here, just not you-laugh-just-to-see-him-on screen great.

Black is in just about every scene, and that gets a bit boring. The movie really takes off when some of the other cast members are allowed to shine, including Miranda Cosgrove as a very ambitious ten year old. In fact, every kid in the class/rock band is adorable, funny, and an interesting character; many are talented musicians. I wish "Tomika" had been given more on screen singing time.

One real joy here is Joan Cusack as a prep school's tightly wound principal. Cusack is pitch perfect and fully satisfying in a way that Black manages to be only intermittently. Cusack is intimidating and poignant, often at the same time ... and frequently the funniest thing on screen.

The movie doesn't make enough use of Cusack, and leaves her hanging, without an adequate resolution to her character's many dilemmas. That's a real lack in the plot. Cusack is so real, so endearing, and so funny, you really want to see more of her.

Sarah Silverman, in a supporting role, is *perfectly cast.* Silverman, as we discovered from her nasty little turn in "The Aristocrats," where she made a pathetic, attention-grabbing accusation against a show biz legend, is a nasty little woman. Casting her here as a malicious, destructive female was type casting. She really conveys the menace the role requires.

"School of Rock" is a sweet, upbeat movie that can give you some smiles and laughs, but it's the kind of movie I like to be doing some chore while watching; it's not a movie that requires your full attention.

I watch zhe movie ,I konw, you got a dream, you gotta protect it. People can't do something themselves, they wanna tell you you can't do it.If you want something, go get it. Period.
